Postgraduate Students


Postgraduate students who have enrolled in a course as a Distance Student are entitled to use the Library Distance Service. As a Distance Student you will be enrolled as a member of the library from the information you provided on your course enrolment form. Please advise us if your contact details change during your course. How do I get a Student ID card?

You need to send a high resolution headshot jpeg photo file to, along with your name and Student ID number. The photograph must be face on to camera and with no hat or sunglasses.
We will make your card and post it back to you.

If you are on-campus you may come to the Library to have your card made

In order to have a card made on-campus you will need to present one of the following:

  • Last year’s EIT student ID Card
  • EIT Login form
  • Fees invoice
  • EIT course Acceptance letter

You will not be issued with any library items unless you have your card with you.
Should you lose your card, replacement ID cards cost $5.00.

How can I log-in to EIT electronic resources and databases?

Databases and e-resources are available from the Subject Guide pages or the Databases page on the Library & Learning Service website. You will need your EIT student Username and Password to access these resources.


How can I access EndNote?

You can download EndNote from EIT here. If you would rather borrow a CD-Rom version please email us at If requesting a CD-Rom please advise whether you require a PC or Mac version, and which version of Word (2010 or 2013) you are using.

How do I request material?

If you are on-campus you may come to the Library with your student ID card to borrow material.
If you are a Distance student and would like to request a single item of Library material you can fill in a Request Form for Distance Students.
If you are a Distance student and have a request for more than one item please email the list to with your name and student ID number.


How do I find out if the library has the books or journal articles I need?

Using Primo Search enables you to identify whether the library holds any specific resources you require. The Library also provides a range of databases for you to access up-to-date information from journals and other sources. The Library staff will be happy to discuss with you which search tool will suit your information needs and provide you with instructions. Course related items not held by the library will be obtained from other libraries where possible. There is no cost for this service.


How do I obtain a book or article the Library doesn’t hold?

We may find an alternative in the collection or we can interloan from another library. Interloans take time to arrive so please plan ahead when requesting. You may complete the Interloan Online Form to request. If you are requesting more than one item please email -


How many books can I borrow?

You may have up to 30 items on issue at one time.


How long can I keep these items?

Postgraduate student loan periods are different to other students.

The postgraduate loan periods are as follows:

Standard loan - 4 weeks(inclusive of postage time)
Heavy demand material - 2 weeks (inclusive of postage time). These books are renewed for one week per renewal only.

Photocopies of articles or chapters are yours to keep. There is no charge for photocopying unless large quantities are requested, in which case we will advise you of the cost.

Books may be renewed three times if no one else has requested them. You may renew a book online through Primo Search (using My Account), or by email or phone. Any books renewed after their due date will incur fines.


How will items be sent to me?

Material will be sent out within 24 hours of your request arriving at the library, unless the item requested is already out on loan, in which case we will notify you. Books are sent to you by courier, and articles by standard post or email if available electronically.


How do I return items to Twist Library?

If you are a Distance student we operate a Freepost service for return of books. When returning books you can recycle the courier bag by turning it inside out, or you can use your own packaging.
Twist Library uses the DX Mail service, and we prefer if you can use DX Mail to return your items. You you may send your books back by putting them in a NZ Post box also, but you cannot hand in items at a NZ Post branch.

What if I have a specific research topic but do not know what books I need?

If you are having trouble locating resources you require, you can click on 'Ask us?, fill in the form and we will do a subject search for you. A list of books and articles will be sent to you, select the items you feel are the most relevant to your topic and return the list to us. Please allow sufficient time for Library staff to process your request and respond to your selection of resources.
