Academic Learning Services - Distance Students

Welcome! Academic Learning Services is here to assist you on your journey towards the successful completion of your studies at EIT. Our aim is for you to become confident, competent and independent learners.

Learning advisors support learners to develop their learning, numeracy, and academic skills, as well as their language proficiency. You are welcome to book an appointment with a learning advisor at one of the campuses if you wish to attend in person. Refer to the Learning Services web page for the relevant campus on MYEIT to find out how to book an appointment. You can also receive an assignment review or study support from a learning advisor by distance.

The study guides offer a range of study skills, computer skills, and assignment writing advice. Student have found the following guides particularly useful:

LEARNING ADVISOR ASSIGNMENT REVIEW

You may submit assignments to a learning advisor to receive assignment writing advice. There is a restriction on the amount of time that any student can expect to have with a learning advisor and it may be necessary to limit the number of times you can have feedback on an assignment if staff workloads are heavy.

To request an assignment review:

Complete an Assignment Review Request form.
Learning advisors usually need to be booked well in advance so if you want an assignment review, please contact us early.

What does the review include?

Review of your assignment may include advice on
    Learning advisors do not
  • how to analyse your assignment tasks
  • working together on your computer and research skills
  • grammar/punctuation/spelling
  • assignment structure
  • paragraph structure
  • flow of ideas
  • referencing
  • paraphrasing
  • assignment formatting

  • write parts of your assignment for you
  • act as your proof-reader
  • cover every aspect of your assignment that needs addressing
  • teach course content
  • asess or pre-mark your work

Learning advisors are here to help you succeed but ultimately, your
assignment is your work and your responsibility.

Post Graduate Distance Students

Many EIT distance students are also post graduate students. Study guides that outline the expectations of post graduate learning and which are particularly helpful for post graduate students can be found here.
